Journal 16: Reaction to Film

After watching Baraka, one scene that is very emotional for me is the life scene. This scene showed me many different kinds of life style and of course some of them I haven't seen before. Some parts showed me people who live in nature just like i saw in movies. I can't imagine if I have to live like them, it will be tough for me. And the other scene that made me feel depressed is the way some people make a living. I saw many lowest level of Indians they can't do anything but dig the garbage to make a living with their hope to find something in there. Their eyes were full with hope but it was nothing in there. I would say this movie gave us a message that life is tough. Be proud of myself. How lucky am I that I was born this way. No need to compare myself to other people that are better than me. There are many people in this world having a hard time of living and can't live in a proper way.

Dear mom and dad,
I have something very important to you. I know both of you will not agree with my decision but i already decided. I'm going to marry to an American guy. He is very kind, sweet and handsome. He makes a lot of money so he can support me. I know you will concern about culture differences between us. Don't worry mom, I already prepared for that. My boyfriend and his family are kind of opened. Now he tries to learn my language to understand me and of course to communicate with you guys. Also, he learns our culture differences from me and he agrees that our culture sounds interested. He doesn't want me to change to his religion but more than that he wants to learn about our religion. My boyfriend and his family is very excited about this marriage and they are looking forward to you, mom and dad. Hopefully, you will understand my decision.
With love, ....

Journal 9 : American food

When I was in Thailand, I thought that every American is the same as Mc Donald. It has just hamburger, fried, soda and salad. Since I came here, I know I was wrong. I had tried many kinds of American food. I know that it tastes good but some of them are too oily for me. I'm Thai so our main dish is rice compared to bread which is a main dish for American. I realized that our main dishes are totally different since I went to the cruise to Caribbean with my family. This trip was around a week. On the cruise, they served only American food such as pizza, hamburger, salad, all kind of bread, ice-cream and hot dog. At first my brother and I were so exciting. We ate a lot for the first 2 days but after that we didn't even want to smell it. I can eat rice everyday but no way for American food. After this trip, my family and I stopped eating American food for a couple of months. I wonder why American people can have these kinds of food everyday.
